Big Brothers Big Sisters Offers Youth Opportunities To Explore Workplace

JAXPORT / Creative Commons

The Mayor has organized a summit tomorrow night at 6:00 pm at the Empowerment Temple in Northwest Baltimore. The Rev. Jamal Harrison Bryant will host the gathering for people who want to mentor, and people who need a mentor. There’s also a page on the city’s website where you can signup to be a mentor.

The data on mentoring couldn’t be clearer. When kids have caring adults in their lives, their outcomes are uniformly better than kids who don’t. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake has been pairing mentors with young people for decades. And over the last 13 years, they’ve facilitated mentoring programs in the workplaces of several local companies. We talk this morning about how it works with Terry Hickey, the President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake, and Roger Waesche. He’s the President and CEO of Corporate Office Properties Trust, a company that has one of these site-based mentoring programs. To learn more about becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister in the community or at your workplace, email [email protected].

Host, Midday (M-F 12:00-1:00)
