The Maglev Train

Imagine commuting from Baltimore to Washington in just 15 minutes. Japanese investors are backing the construction of a high-speed train powered by magnetic levitation or “maglev.” Supporters see it as the future of transportation in the U.S. while others doubt demand will justify the multibillion dollar cost. Our guests: Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a member of The Northeast Maglev advisory board; architect and Midday contributor Klaus Philipsen, president of ArchPlan Inc. and a writer about architecture and planning; and David Pickeral, a former Baltimorean who works in intelligent transportation systems for IBM in Virginia.
