When it comes to biodiversity of plants and animals, the number of species typically increases as you move from the colder temperate zone to the warm tropics. The epicenter of salamander diversity, however, exists much further from the Equator—in fact, it’s here.
One hundred and seventy-one of the world’s 535 salamander species live in the United States, and Maryland alone hosts 21 different species. National Aquarium General Curator Jack Cover is here today to tell us more about the salamanders found right here in Maryland.
