Maryland's Gun Laws

Maryland has a reputation for being tough when it comes to gun control. As of last year, Maryland outlaws 45 kinds of assault rifles, and requires strict background checks for citizens who are eligible to purchase guns. But, Daniel Webster, Director of the Center for Gun Policy and Research at Johns Hopkins University, says Maryland isn’t as strict as you might think. He’s convening a series of seminars on gun control over the next couple of months. He joins Sheilah on the phone.

Also joining us is Attorney General-elect Brian Frosh, a panelist at this afternoon’s seminar. And, also here in Baltimore for the seminar is Lauren Baraldi, the Chief of the Gun Violence Task Force for the District Attorney in Philadelphia. She joins Sheilah.

Daniel Webster’s seminar series begins at noon today. There are four more seminars on gun violence in the series between now and December 15th. For the full schedule, click here.

Sheilah Kast is the host of On The Record, Monday-Friday, 9:30-10:00 am.
