Midday on Health with Dr. John Cmar

Last winter’s “Polar Vortex” has unleashed a particularly harsh allergy season, dubbed “The Pollen Vortex.” Baltimore’s asthma-related deaths are almost three times higher than the rest of the state's. Warm-weather injuries are expected to begin popping up in emergency rooms; we’ll hear about some of the most common injuries that occur as a result of spring activity and how to avoid them. Plus, medical graduates have just been matched with hospitals for their residencies; we take a look at that transition and discuss “The July Effect,” the belief that more hospital errors occur as medical school graduates begin residencies.

The unusually frigid winter has given rise to unusually high counts of pollen.
