From Rye To Raphael: The Walters Story

Walters Art Museum

Baltimore’s two major museums are both celebrating major anniversaries this year. Later this month, the Baltimore Museum of Art will celebrate its 100th anniversary with the re-opening of the main entrance and renovations to some of its galleries. A few miles down Charles Street, the Walters Art Museum is celebrating its 80th anniversary as a public institution with a new exhibition called From Rye to Raphael: The Walters Story.

More than 200 works of art from the Walters collection are displayed in seven galleries, and they tell the story of the Walters family, and their gift to the city of Baltimore of one of the most acclaimed collections of art in the world. Jo Briggs is the assistant curator of 18th and 19th century art at the Walters, and Julia Marciari Alexander is the director. They join Tom Hall to tell us a little about this exhibition.
The exhibition is free and runs until April. You can check it out from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, and until 9 p.m. on Thursdays.

Host, Midday (M-F 12:00-1:00)
