Teachers Pay Teachers - 9/22/15

Some of you are being driven to school right now.  You will soon encounter a teacher who you will look at you as a teacher.  But the person in front of you may also be a cutting edge entrepreneur.  TeachersPayTeachers.com is a virtual marketplace where educators can buy and sell lesson plans.  Teachers often spend hours preparing classroom lesson plans to help impart the material students are required to learn.

Teachers Pay Teachers was founded in two thousand and six, and allows teachers to sell their output to large audiences.  As reported in the New York Times, the company behind the site has paid about one hundred and seventy five million dollars to its teacher authors to date.  The site takes a fifteen percent commission on most sales.

By selling tens of thousands of pedagogical items, twelve teachers on the site have become millionaires and nearly three hundred teachers have earned more than one hundred thousand dollars.  On any given day, the site is home to about one point seven million quizzes, worksheets, classroom activities and lesson plans, typically offered for less than five dollars.
