Frist Set to Assume Senate Majority Leader's Post

Sen. Bill Frist (R-TN) is likely to be affirmed Monday as incoming Senate majority leader, replacing Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) after a furor over racially divisive remarks forced Lott to quit the post. Frist is a bit of an unknown quantity. Hear NPR's Liane Hansen and David Firestone of The New York Times.

Liane Hansen has been the host of NPR's award-winning Weekend Edition Sunday for 20 years. She brings to her position an extensive background in broadcast journalism, including work as a radio producer, reporter, and on-air host at both the local and national level.
