Audiences and musicians alike viewed him as one of the most talented vocalists in the Baltimore/DC area. Micah Smith, lead singer with several area bands, director of music ministries at local churches, a music instructor in Baltimore City Schools, vocal coach to colleagues and a solo artist on the rise, unexpectedly passed away in early April. His beautiful tenor/baritone silenced but not his musical legacy. In remembrance of this revered member of the Baltimore arts community, his friends, family and musical collaborators and fans are invited to come together for an evening of spectacular sound—inspired by Micah to ensure his compositions, influences and pure joy of music remain in our hearts forever.
All are invited to this fundraising concert/open mic event with proceeds to benefit Micah’s family. “A Night for Micah” will be hosted by Motown & More and Your Girl Cheryl. Artists interested in participating should contact Cheryl Goodman at yourgirlcheryl@gmail.com. -

RAVI COLTRANE is a critically acclaimed GRAMMY™ & deeply cerebral jazz nominated saxophonist, bandleader, and composer. In the course of a twenty plus year career, Mr. Coltrane has worked as a sideman to many, and recorded noteworthy albums for himself and others. Ravi has released six albums as a leader. His albums include, “Moving Pictures,” “From The Round Box,” “Mad 6,” “In Flux,” “Blending Times,” and “Spirit Fiction.” Additional credits include performances as well as recordings with Elvin Jones, Terence Blanchard, Kenny Barron, Steve Coleman, McCoy Tyner, Jack DeJohnette, Matt Garrison, Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Geri Allen, Joanne Brackeem, The Blue Note 7, among others. Join us at Gallery 1448 for the opening reception of Lauren Case: Watercolor, featuring live music by the Cover Birds.
Case’s work with watercolor is a refreshing departure from her usual collage, assemblage and mixed media methods. Relinquishing control to the water is not unlike diving into a pool, eventually coming up for air to witness the unique ripples and waves created by the plunge. This body of work is a testament to the beauty of the unplanned and the joy of experimentation.
Admission is free. The show runs from May 10 – 31. Gallery hours are Saturdays & Sundays, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and by appointment. For information, contact Lauren Case at 410-710-9478 / lmcase49@gmail.com.
