Join us for 'Unlock Your Creativity Through Improv' - a dynamic and engaging introductory improv workshop designed to ignite your creativity and unlock the power of spontaneous collaboration. This two-hour in-person workshop is the perfect opportunity to dip your toes into the exciting world of improv.

Our workshop begins with friendly introductions followed by a boundary check-in, ensuring a held space for exploration and creativity.

Through a series of lively improv warmups, you'll discover the joy of letting go, embracing the present moment, and trusting your instincts. Our experienced instructors will lead you through a variety of games and exercises that foster teamwork, quick thinking, and adaptability. As you dive into scenes, you'll experience the thrill of creating stories and characters on the spot.

This workshop is specifically designed for individuals who are new to improv, so no prior experience is required. Leave your worries at the door and step into a low-pressure, fun-filled experience that will leave you energized and inspired. 'Unlock Your Creativity Through Improv!' is your invitation to explore the world of improv, unleash your creativity, and discover the power of spontaneous collaboration.

About your instructors:

Emily Iannuzzelli (she/her) is an improviser, nervous system coach and collage artist who blends embodied play, creative expression, and nervous system awareness to help people reconnect with joy and imagination. With a background in improv comedy, somatic practices, and coaching, she creates spaces where growth feels like play.

Barry Wright (he/him) is an improviser, teacher, and technology professional. He is a co-founder of Highwire Improv and currently serves as President of the Board. He has trained in improv since 2017, including at Highwire Improv, Baltimore Improv Group, Hoopla Impro, and in numerous online workshops. He performs with many ensembles including ImprovScape, Improv Jeoparty, Topiary, Important Screws, Whatever This Is, Sandcats, and Dreamweaver. Barry lives with his wife Kristen and their three cats and is always happy to chat about improv or start a Google Doc.

Hosted by Jessica Watson, creative director and founder of Points North Studio, the event will unfold in a cozy, living-room-style setup — two armchairs in front of an intimate audience, with time for audience questions, a book signing, and light refreshments.

Join us at Highwire Improv for an affinity group jam* for LGBTQIA+ members of the improv community! All levels of improv experience are welcome!

We'll connect, introduce ourselves to one another, do some fun, silly warmups, go over access needs and boundaries, and then dive into improv games, scenes, and exercises together!

*An affinity group event is specifically for members of a specific group, in this case, LGBTQIA+ individuals. We welcome those who are not part of the LGBTQIA+ community to join our many other jams and drop-ins!

About your facilitator:
Jess Robey (she/her) discovered her passion for improv comedy five years ago during an intro to improv workshop, and she hasn’t looked back since. Based in Baltimore, Jess has performed at various theaters and spaces in cities across the East Coast. Currently, Jess is a member of several Baltimore improv teams. Outside of improv, Jess finds joy in dancing, candle making, and writing. She sees improv as a liberating experience, allowing her to let go, have fun and feel supported.

The Highwire Center is Highwire Improv's home base in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore! Part of Highlandtown Main Street and the Highlandtown Arts District, The Highwire Center is home to classes, free workshops, shows, community events, corporate training, and more! Good intentions collide with absurd assumptions in this biting satire, as a troupe of performatively “woke” thespians scrambles to create a pageant that somehow manages to celebrate both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month without any cultural stumbles.

The TU Jazz faculty offer their semester's recital featuring original music and fresh takes on jazz classics. The members of the ensemble will be: Jason Rigby on saxophones; Dave Ballou on trumpet; Jeff Reed on bass; John Lee on guitar; and Eric Kennedy on drum set.

Maryland Opera is joined by Peter Wood from the Spirit Shop on Falls Road for an afternoon of craft cocktails. Peter will create two cocktails inspired by our November 15 production of The Merry Widow and teach you to make them at home. After that, enjoy the delicious concoctions while Peabody Professor Ernest Liotti delights you with topsy turvy highlights of Lehár’s The Merry Widow to get you in the operetta spirit! Spend a lovely Sunday afternoon sipping and discovering. You’ll even get to take the cocktail recipes home to make for your next cocktail party!

Profs and Pints Baltimore presents: “How Do You Fly This Thing?” A discussion of the basics of piloting airplanes and navigating our local airspace, with Nate Young, FAA-certified commercial pilot and flight instructor at Washington International Flight Academy.

[Doors open at 3. The talk starts at 4:30. The room is open seating.]

For many of us, riding in an airplane from point A to B is an act of faith. Lacking much understanding of how the plane flies, how anyone flies it, or what’s happening around us, we sit there experiencing varying degrees of trust and trepidation.

Profs and Pints is offering those who want a deeper understanding of airplane flight the next best thing to a seat in the cockpit: An evening with an airplane pilot and instructor at one of the region’s largest flight schools.

You’ll learn the basics of how airplanes fly, focusing on the importance of lift, weight, drag, and thrust as well as how airplanes harness the laws of physics. You’ll be introduced to the various dials, gauges, and gizmos that are standard flight instruments in airplane cockpits and enable pilots to know airspeed, direction, and basic orientation to the ground. We’ll cover the basics of how to read a navigation chart and look at the “roadmaps” that pilots of all types use in getting around the United States.

You’ll learn how to read and predict weather like a pilot, based on how they take into consideration cold or warm fronts, low- or high-pressure systems, radar, and weather information sites. You’ll gain a sense of how to view clouds through their eyes, considering cloud shape, color, and height to predict bumpiness or unstable air and whether a nasty thunderstorm is brewing.

Young, who trains private pilots, commercial pilots wanting to become flight instructors, and retiring U.S. military pilots seeking to transition to commercial airline work, also will discuss how pilots make risk assessments using FAA-approved frameworks. We’ll cover explanations for in-flight turbulence and other things you might experience as a passenger.

Finally, we’ll cover the region’s rich aviation history and heritage and what makes airspace over parts of the region especially complex and restrictive. (Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID.)

John Coltrane departed this mortal plane more than fifty years ago; today he remains among us, more alive than ever. His sound continues to grab the ears of an ever-widening circle of fans. His legend is stone solid: planted firmly in our culture as that of any 20th century musical giant. His saxophone sound—brooding, searching, dark—is still one of the most recognizable in modern jazz. His influence stretches over styles and genres, and transcends cultural boundaries.

A veteran jazzman, saxophonist George Garzone has appeared on over 20 recordings. Garzone is well-known as a sought-after jazz educator, currently teaching at the Berklee College of Music. In addition, George Garzone has guested in many situations, touring Europe with Jamaaladeen Tacuma and performing with Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Rachel Z, Peter Erskine and John Patitucci among others. In 1995 he recorded a fine tribute to Stan Getz on NYC called Alone; Four’s and Two’s followed a year later with compatriot Joe Lovano which earned him four stars in Downbeat magazine, and in 1999 Garzone returned with Moodiology.

The Maryland Irish Festival is an annual celebration of Irish Culture, heritage and customs benefiting Irish Charities of Maryland, a 501 (C) (3) organization that donates funds to local and regional nonprofit organizations.

Back for its second year, Abbott and the Big Ten Conference are hosting the We Give Blood Drive competition to entice students, alumni, fans, and community members to rally around their Big Ten school to donate blood, save lives, and address the country's ongoing critical blood shortage.

From August 27 to December 5, anyone eligible to donate blood can do so anywhere, anytime in the U.S. to count for their school. The school with the most donations at the end of the competition will receive $1 million to advance student or community health.

New this year, everyone who donates or attempts to donate blood throughout the competition will receive an exclusive, limited-edition, Homefield-designed T-shirt specific to their school. To receive the shirt:
