General Motors Co. will close its Baltimore County transmission plant next year as part of a restructuring plan that could cost the company as much as $3.8 billion. The Detroit automaker announced Monday that it will end production at several plants in the U.S. and Canada next year and reduce its salaried workforce by 15 percent.
The plant in White Marsh is one of five closures in North America set to take place in 2019. The 471,000-square-foot facility in White Marsh opened in 2000 and employs 310 workers as of Nov. 20, according to the plant's website. The Baltimore plant manufacturers A1000 transmissions for the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full size pick-up trucks.
