Towson Town Center is making way for Round1, a chain that will bring bowling, arcade games, karaoke, food, drinks and more to the suburban mall.
Round1 will occupy roughly 53,000 square feet on the mall's first floor, taking over 11 tenant spaces and some common areas that are currently being converted for the new venue by Japan-based amusement store chain Round One Entertainment Inc. When complete, it will be the first Round1 location in Maryland, with the next closet in Exton, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia. It is expected to open at the end of 2019 or early 2020. The new concept fits a trend in local and national retail to bring entertainment concepts into shopping malls where brick-and-mortar retail stores are struggling to survive the e-commerce boom. Emily Brophy, senior general manager for Towson Town Center, said bringing in Round1 is designed to react to the changing retail environment by providing more experiences for the mall's customers. It's also a strategy that the mall's owner, Brookfield Properties, has found to be successful at its other Baltimore-area properties.
