Aldi introduced new "On the Go" food, wider aisles and discount meat and fish to its newly renovated location in East Baltimore — and shoppers are already responding. The grocery chain is investing $18 million to update 13 Baltimore-area stores, said Division Vice President Jeff Baehr. The store on East Fayette Street is the third to be remodeled this year after stores in Elkton and Essex. The renovation is part of a $1.9 billion national push to renovate 1,300 Aldi stores by the end of 2020. The location in East Baltimore closed for about six weeks at the end of June for renovations, and is set to have its grand re-opening on Aug. 23.
