Johns Hopkins University has been named the No. 1 best college in Maryland, according to a new 2020 ranking by Niche.com.
The Baltimore institution tops the state-wide list followed by University of Maryland, College Park and Loyola University Maryland. Pittsburgh-based Niche compiled the ranking as part of its annual "2020 Best Colleges" package, which compares more than 1,000 colleges and universities across the U.S. using a number of factors. In the national ranking, Johns Hopkins falls at No. 27, with University of Maryland at No. 104, out of 1,626 schools. The rankings are based on reviews from students, as well as sources like the U.S. Department of Education. Each university is graded in a number of categories such as "academics," "athletics," "campus life" and more, and also receives an overall grade.
