The 1,000-acre Greenleigh at Crossroads development near White Marsh will get a new landmark this week.
A 20-foot brushed metal sculpture with two intertwined wings is set to be dedicated on Wednesday in memory of the late Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, who pushed to turn the barren woodlands off Interstate 95 into a mixed-use community with 2,000 residential units, office space and retail. Kamenetz died in office at age 61 in May 2018 while campaigning for the Democratic nomination for governor. St. John Properties and Somerset Construction Co., two of the main partners in the Greenleigh project, commissioned Eastern Shore artist Will Hemsley to design the piece in Kamenetz's memory for the development. The sculpture is titled "Turning Winds" and is located next to the Berkleigh apartments at Greenleigh off Route 43.
