The ornate, former sanctuary of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church will be filled with visitors once again next month. That is when the $2.4 million, 200-seat Ministry of Brewing is set to open near Upper Fells Point with eight original beers, most with a Baltimore theme.
Developer Ernst Valery said Thursday the brewery is expected to open by mid-November in a portion of the 70,000-square-foot former church complex that occupies the entire 1900 block of Lombard Street. The brewery is next to the 37-unit Ministry Lofts apartments located in the church's former school building in Upper Fells Point. Tenants began to move in this summer. The brewery has been in the works for a year and a half and is modeled on a similar project in Pittsburgh, the Church Brew Works.
