Cloudy Donuts, formerly known as Donut Alliance, has a new name and new owners — but that isn't stopping it from trying to expand the vegan doughnut experience in Baltimore. Cloudy Donut's new owners, brothers Derrick and Justin Faulcon, started out as frequent customers but were so impressed by the doughnuts that they ended up purchasing the business in December.
The pair has been busy since learning what it takes to make tasty vegan doughnuts while adding their own personal touch to the shop. Located at 4311 Harford Road, in the Lauraville neighborhood in northeast Baltimore, the brothers have made some cosmetic changes to the shop. The sign above the storefront window has changed to showcase the new name, once-tiled floors are now concrete, and a custom-made cloud created by a New York- based artist will arrive soon to hang over the double marbled counters. The shop, which offers 32 flavors including soon-to-be-released pineapple upside down cake, red velvet cake, and lemon blueberry cake, turns classic donut ingredients on their head with vegan alternatives. The substitutes, for instance, includes swapping eggs for applesauce, whole milk for coconut milk, and then deep frying them in coconut oil rather than in lard.
