Matthew Weir, M.D., is the Director of the Division of Nephrology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center and Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Dr. Weir’s special interests includes the use of anti-hypertensive renal therapy in African Americans and preventing kidney transplant rejection in transplant patients.  In this commentary, Dr. Weir discusses the importance of early detection of chronic kidney disease.
