In 1981, Mayor Schaefer threatened to jump into the Seal Pool of The National Aquarium if construction was not finished on time.
It wasn't, and so Schaefer donned a bathing suit and jumped in. Twenty years later, his aides thought to re-enact the scene - using the same bathing suit. They learned that since the original opening, the Aquarium added square footage, and Mr. Schaefer had added pounds!
