For most of his careerDavid Simonhas been digging into the most pressing urban issues we face: race, inequality, crime, and policing. He spent years as a Baltimore Sun reporter, and created both The Wire and Tremé, his HBO series about New Orleans after Katrina.
Now he brings us an HBO miniseries about a racial divide in housing called Show Me a Hero. It takes place in the 1980s in the working-class town of Yonkers, north of New York City. David Simon joins Sheilah in the studio.
