With the Golden Globes being handed out this Sunday (January 10th) and the Academy Awards presentations -- the Oscars -- coming on February 28th, competition in the film industry is heating up. So we invited Maryland Morning's Movie Mavens, Jed Dietz, director of the Maryland Film Festival, and Ann Hornaday, film critic for the Washington Post, to weigh in with their suggestions about what's hot, and what's not, at movie theaters this winter. They also focus on the role violence plays in some of this season's new flicks, an issue Ann Hornaday explores more deeply in her Critic's Notebook essay in the Washington Post.
The films discussed this morning include: STAR WARS: Ep. VII: THE FORCE AWAKENS, REVENANT, THE HATEFUL EIGHT, ANOMALISA, THE DANISH GIRL, JOY and THE BIG SHORT.
