Baltimore Seeking More Help, And Homes, For City's Homeless

The Journey Home

It’s estimated that on any given night in Baltimore, upwards of 3,000 men, women and children experience some form of homelessness.   Sometimes, people secure temporary lodging with friends or relatives, some may have found refuge in public or privately run shelters or transitional apartments, and some -- far too many -- wind up on the street.  As winter temperatures here in Baltimore begin to drop below freezing, concerns about the welfare of the homeless are growing.  Easing the plight of all Baltimoreans who have lost a permanent roof over their heads is an urgent and complex challenge, and it’s one that Tom's two guests confront every day.  Dr. Jaquelyn Duval-Harvey, is director of the Mayor’s Office of Human Services, which runs the Homeless Services Program in the City of Baltimore.  Kevin Lindamood is CEO of Health Care for the Homeless in Baltimore, part of a national not-for-profit organization that provides a range of health, housing and other services for the homeless.
