Baltimore’s history has rich connections to its social clubs, clubs like the Mount Vernon Club and the Hamilton Street Club. But club membership across the country is on the decline and current members are aging. Clubs used to be the place to rub elbows and hammer out business deals, but in the age of social media, do clubs still have a purpose? How are clubs fighting to stay relevant in an age where networking often happens over the Internet, not a three-cocktail lunch? We speak to local historian Gil Sandler about the history of clubs in Baltimore, as well as David Nevins, president of The Center Club's Board of Governors, and Jay Bitner, associate executive director of the Engineers Club.
