This morning, in a stunning announcement, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake said she will not seek re-election. The mayor’s image has been battered by the events of the past five months with the death of Freddie Gray in police custody, followed by rioting in the city that prompted a curfew and the send-in of the National Guard. Six police officers were charged in Gray’s death -- their trials are set to begin this fall. This week, the mayor pushed through a $6.4 million wrongful death payout at the city’s Board of Estimates to the family of Freddie Gray. Today in the first hour of Midday, we will discuss the mayor’s decision and we invite your calls and emails.
