Many were injured, and brazenness about racist and hateful rhetoric is alive and well. White nationalists succeeded in shining a bright spotlight on themselves in Charlottesville. The president of the United States has said little to dim that light, drawing severe criticism from, as he might say, many, many sides. Dr. Nathan Connolly, a professor of history at Johns Hopkins University, joins Tom to reflect on Charlottesville and its aftermath.
