The second season of HBO’s “The Wire” focused on the Baltimore waterfront and the men and women who worked there.
Two of the people responsible for the authentic feel of that season, writer Rafael Alvarez and actor Charley Scalies, formed a lasting friendship working together on the show. They’re collaborating this holiday season for Alvarez’s annual holiday literary celebration, and they join producer Lisa Morgan in with a preview.

If you’re a musician, your album-release date is a big deal. It’s the culmination of months, sometimes years of dedication, a chance to finally let the rest of the world hear the fruits of your labor. Now, imagine taking that sense of anticipation and quadrupling it. On New Year’s Day, 2014, Wendel Patrick is on track to release not one, but four albums. He joins Signal producer Aaron Henkin to talk about how – and why – he’s doing it.

The Stoop recently partnered with the Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers’ Betsy Nelson Legacy Fund to host a night of live storytelling titled, “The Giving Life: Stories about purpose, passion, and the power of generosity and service.” One of the featured storytellers was a woman whose life has come full-circle. Annette March-Grier took the stage and shared a story about returning to start fresh at the site of her family’s old funeral home business to start a new grief-counseling center called, “Roberta’s House.”
