Temperatures dipping into the single digits, multiple water-main breaks already this week. And now forecasters are predicting a monster winter storm will slam the entire East Cast tonight and early tomorrow. Public works crews say they are ready for whatever comes their way.
The storm is expected to drop a blanket of snow on the city as temperatures plunge even lower than they have been. Public works spokesperson, Jeff Raymond, says his department is partnering with the city Department of Transportation.
“We do have trucks and drivers that will be helping to plow and move the snow to provide whatever assistance," says Raymond.
Trucks will start treating roads with salt and then begin clearing them for a smoother Thursday morning commute.
But, Raymond says, that may impede service calls.
“Potentially make it a little more difficult for us to get our trucks moving around," says Raymond.
He says residents have reported upwards of 50 water main breaks this week.
