"Breakthrough:" Breaking The Political Glass Ceiling

The author, historian and Baltimore native Nancy Cohen has made a specialty of studying women in American politics.  She’s just published a new book that ponders whether or not the glass ceiling in politics is about to be broken, if not by Hillary Clinton, then perhaps by another women, as slowly but surely the Old Boys’ Network is dismantled.  As we heard earlier this morning, Donna Edwards is very much in the mix to win the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat being vacated by the longest-serving woman in the Senate, Barbara Mikulski.  But as for America’s top job, more than 50 nations have elected women to lead them.  Is it our turn this time around?  Nancy Cohen’s book is called Breakthrough: The Making of the First Woman President.  Nancy Cohen joins Tom from the NPR West studios in Culver City, California.
