The Dignity Of Work, The Photographs Of Bodine

A. Aubrey Bodine

Photographer A. Aubrey Bodine worked for the Baltimore Sunday Sun for almost half a century -- 1924 to 1970. During that career, he captured the way Marylanders lived and worked.  His daughter, Jennifer Bodine, put together a collection of his work that depicts a wide range of Maryland jobs.  Some occupations like umbrella menders and carriage makers are long gone.  Others like tomato pickers, firemen, and sailors are still around, though they may look different.

The book is called Bodine’s Industry: The Dignity of Work She's now working on a collection of her father's photographs of trains in Maryland.

In November 2012, Dan Rodricks spoke with Jennifer Bodine and UMBC Kuhn Library curator Tom Beck about the life of A. Aubrey Bodine.

This segment originally aired on June 18th, 2013.

Sheilah Kast is the host of On The Record, Monday-Friday, 9:30-10:00 am.
