Gone Fishin'... The Wit & Wisdom of Lefty Kreh

World-class fly fisherman Lefty Kreh goes fishing with producer Aaron Henkin and folklorist Cliff Murphy

Once you’ve traveled the globe, caught a hundred and twenty five different species of fish in the most exotic waters on the planet, earned a reputation as perhaps the finest fly fisherman in the world, invented your own signature fly, and seen it immortalized on a U.S. postage stamp, what could there possibly be left to enjoy about fishing?  For 90-year-old Lefty Kreh, the answer is simple:  My greatest pleasure in fishing, now, is to take somebody that’s never done it, and then watch them catch their first one.  To me, it’s kind of like catching the thing yourself all over again.  Lefty Kreh takes us out fishing, in a special co-production of The Signal and Maryland Traditions, and while he’s at it, he shares his incredible life story, his irrepressible sense of humor, and some profound philosophical wisdom as only a fisherman can deliver it.

You can reserve your tickets here to celebrate Lefty Kreh at the 2014 Maryland Traditions ALTA Awards Ceremony & Concert, featuring performances by the Holmes Brothers and Danny Paisley, Dec. 6th at 7pm.

Aaron creates and produces original radio programs and podcasts for WYPR. His current project is The Maryland Curiosity Bureau.
